Dr. Jason beech's class
CPE & Pre-cpe
Dr. Jason Beech Director of the Escuela de Educación from Universidad de San Andrés, and researcher at CONICET, PhD in Education and M.A in Comparative Education, author of several articles published in scientific journals and of books visited us last Wednesday 29th.
He gave a very interesting class about one aspect of Comparative Education: Re-thinking social justice: redistribution and recognition. Basically, Dr. Beech outlined the new concept of network society, in which all the world is linked by a huge net that makes space a completely new notion, as we are all close to each other in spite of the fact that we live far apart. He also discussed the notion of knowledge society, by pointing out that today knowledge is the main asset that can make the difference between two countries or two regions. He argued that there are some minority groups which are marginalized by society in general and finished his talk suggesting some ideas about how we can create a more egalitarian society in which difference and diversity are seen as a contribution to society.
He went on to comment on the concept of empathy and how the world will be a better place when people learn how to put themselves in someone else´s shoes. Both, the students of Pre-Proficiency and Proficiency, together with teachers and school authorities had the pleasure of sharing this class with Dr. Beech, and we are very grateful for it.
