Student - Led Class
Last Wednesday, June 19th, the students of Proficiency had a special class about the evolution of communication throughout the years. Roughly based on the school moto for this year - The changes throughout time ? and a lesson we had a couple of weeks ago: From Gutenberg to internet ? two students: Mateo Maidana and Julia Minero prepared this class following the teacher?s instructions. The idea was to prepare a lesson about the evolution of communication, present the topic, then make the other students participate and try to use material not only seen in the English class but also in other subjects, such as History of Art, Semiology or other.
The outcome was excellent: both, Mateo and Julia prepared the class carefully, they used a game to make students interested in the topic, used material learnt in different subjects and made their classmates take part. All in all, a wonderful experience.
This was not our first experience with a student-led class. Last month, two other students, Camila Fernández García and Tomás Ordoñez, prepared a lesson based on one of the episodes of the documentary, ?Our Planet?, which we have been watching in class. The idea was to invite all their classmates to answer questions about the video and make them give arguments to support personal opinion. The English Coordinator, Ms Teresa Barinotto, was invited to share the class and gave a very positive feedback on the result.
We are planning to continue giving students the chance to take a more active role in their learning process; they can and they are willing to.
